“2018 brought unprecedented success for the healthcare and biotech industry, with 16 companies reaching the US$1 billion valuation mark needed for them to earn the title of unicorn—an indication of rarity and worth. However, despite the growing number of health-care unicorns in 2019, including Babylon Health, Doctolib, and CMR Surgical, there is still little evidence that valuation is the best way to define interventions and services that are making a difference to patients’ health and wellbeing.”
